Pasado simple

 1. El pasado simple se utiliza para expresar acciones que sucedieron en el pasado. Se emplean datos temporales como (‘yesterday’,‘in 1999.’, ‘last week’).

I went to Vienna last week.

 2. Con el pasado simple se expresan también acciones repetidas regularmente en el pasado.

We always spent our summers in Italy.

Verbos regulares en el pasado simple

La forma del pasado simple de los verbos regulares termina en -ed.

start started

Si el verbo termina en -e, , se agrega sólo -d al final del verbo.

move moved

Los verbos que terminan en -y tras una consonante, cambian -y en -ied.

marry married

A los verbos que terminan en -y tras una vocal, se agrega -ed .

stay  stayed

Se redobla la consonante final de los verbos monosilábicos con una vocal ante la consonante final.

stop  stopped

La misma forma vale para todas las personas.

Forma negativa

En oraciones negativas, se emplea ‘did not’ (forma corta: ‘didn’t’). 

They didn’t live in Salzburg in 1999. 
We didn’t have a wonderful holiday.

Los verbos irregulares tienen una forma especial en el pasado simple. Su forma vale para todas las personas.
