Idioms and Verbs Connected to Subjunctive (Subjonctif)

Subjective is used after verbs and idioms expressing a wish, willingness, suggestion, doubts, uncertainness, etc.:

Je veux / je souhaite / j’interdis que vous partiez avant 17 heures.
(I want / I wish / I order, you to leave before 5 pm.)

Non-personal verbs such as: il faut que, il est nécessaire que... also belong to this group

Il faut que votre nièce fasse du sport.
(It’s necessary that your niece does some sport.)

Verbs of feeling, fear, worry:

Je crains que cette technique ne me convienne pas.
(I’m afraid that this technique doesn’t suite me.)
Nous sommes heureux qu’il ait accepté notre invitation.
(We’re happy that he accepted our invitation.)

verbs expressing doubts:

Je doute / je ne crois pas que vous ayez raison.
(I’m not sure / I don’t believe you’re right.)
Il est possible qu’il ait raison (mais je ne le crois pas).
(It’s possible he’s right (but I don’t believe it.))

verbs and idioms expressing opinion or assessment:

Il est normal / logique / bizarre / important qu’il vienne te voir.
(It’s normal / logical / strange / important he’s coming to see you.)

Note:
indicative is placed behind the verb espérer que

J’espère qu’il ne pleuvra pas.
(I hope, it won’t be raining.)

the verbs penser and croire are in conjunction with an indicative in a positive indicative and with a subjunctive in a question and negative:

Je crois que nous sommes en retard. (I think we’re late.)
Pensez-vous que nous soyons en retard? (Do you think we’re late?)
Il ne croit pas que nous soyons en retard. (He doesn’t think we are late.
